To the MTA Commissioner:

Sir, let me just tell you that you’re failing at your job. You and your employees, no matter how much you want to stand behind them, are not delivering the one service that they are tasked with: getting people to their destinations in a timely manner.

Frankly, sir, that (and my safety in the subway) are the only two things that I really care about. You can install timers, you can care about the graffiti or the “scratchitti” but all I care about is that my day doesn’t start of shitty because I have to wait 20 or more minutes to get on a fucking train.

While the MTV Music Awards are generally not a subject that will appear on this blog, this year’s awards are so terribly produced that we simply could not refrain from comment. In fact, I cannot remember the last time I saw anything on TV that was this badly produced. Lets start from the top, where Britney Spears made her “comeback” debut with one of the least energetic, badly faked performances since Ashley Simpson’s lip-syncing debacle on Jay Leno.

The New York Times (and other media outlets) is reporting that Google finalized the purchase of DoubleClick for a record USD 3.1 Billion. Previous estimates valued the ad serving company at just over $2 billion.

Why I hate Gap

Gosha

I wanted to bitch about the Gap for a long time now. I just never thought that that company would get to me so much.

See, this whole 21st century thing - it’s about identity and individuality, right? Or at least on the surface. At first glance, we all try to be different (by identifying ourselves with certain groups, music, and, yes, brands), not blend in…stand out. And companies try to stand out too, spending millions of dollars to craft unique images through their branding ad agencies.

Daylight Savings Time…

The Energy Policy Act passed by the US Congress in 2005 changed the dates for Daylight Saving Time (DST) starting in 2007. As a result, DST in the U.S., Canada and Bermuda will begin on the second Sunday of March (March 11, 2007) and will end on the first Sunday in November (November 4, 2007). This results in a new DST period that is four weeks longer than previously observed. The rest of the world will not change to DST any earlier than they have in the past.

There are a few things that can be done in times of grave emergencies. Your mobile phone can actually be a life saver or an emergency tool for survival. Check out the things that you can do with it:

FIRST Subject: Emergency

The Emergency Number worldwide for Mobile is 112. If you find yourself out of the coverage area of your mobile; network and there is an emergency, dial 112 and the mobile will search any existing network to establish the emergency number for you, and interestingly this number 112 can be dialed even if the keypad is locked. Try it out.

Or better yet, if the house of representatives passes a resolution, and it is non-binding, does anyone give a shit?

The House of Representatives easily passed 246-182 a non-binding resolution Friday rejecting President Bush’s plan to send more troops to Iraq. “This will signal a change in direction that will end the fighting and bring our troops home,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said. Republicans battled to the end against the measure, saying resolve is more important than resolutions.

WHY is this non-binding crap even news, let alone breaking news. Yes folks, its election season, and its time to fire up the Political Rant engine (with an emphASSis on the rant part). So, lets start with the easiest target there possible could be - CNN and their incessant ignoramus approach to politics. I would not be surprised if CNN stood for the Childrens News Network. Or the Crapola News Network, better yet. They get all riled up about absolutely nothing. NOTHING I tell you. It is absolutely incredible the lack of analysis, or political compsure that site has, given its widespread appeal and cloak-of-authority approach to the media world.

Congresses day @ Camp

Debate!?  Debate!?  What do you mean Debate!?

Non-binding resolution!?  A freakin’ non-binding resolution!?

It is time for the Democrats to take off the gloves and actually start acting like the United States is behind them.  The republicans were successful in doing so, even when the nation hated their guts.

I am not a Democrat.  I am not a Republican.  I am a fed-up American, whom after being burned by the spineless Dems (post-Clinton) concluded that having an affiliation with a party is a self defeatist mentality in regards to the hope that our country can pull itself out of this political deadlock.

The New York iPod Ban

The iPod Ban that is being proposed in New York City is such an outrageous issue that the GoDa Group, in association with TPR Media and the awesome VertraNet team is launching a new joint effort. We intend to provide a centralized space in order to host a lively debate regarding this issue. We will follow political developments, feature online commentary, and provide “words from the street” in order to better understand the reaction. In other words iPodBan.com is the citizen’s response to the proposed ban on iPods, Blackberry’s, and cellphones that is sweeping our nation.
We will have a bare-bones site built in the next 6-12 hours, and will continue to enhance it, adding features, content, and of course, comments by people like you. Keep your browsers pointed to www.ipodban.com - there is nothing there yet (2/7/2007 @ 4:30pm), but there will be soon.

See you there soon…

Woot it up

Woot.com - apparently this site has made its way around those technofiles looking for some consumer-excitement and good deals at the same time. Woot.com, as it was explained to me, is an online store that only sells 1 product a day (except when there is a woot-off - more on that later). You can buy the product for a lot less than other stores sell it for, and there is an undisclosed number of products. When the last one is sold, that is it for the rest of the day (until midnight, when the next product is sold). People go nuts for these things, both because they can get their HP Photosmart M517 5.2 Megapixel Digital Camera for $89.99 + $5 shipping (everything ships for $5), but also because there is excitement built around not knowing how many digital cameras, or ipods, or tvs, are left to buy.

When there is a woot-off, it is similar to what happens during a normal day on Woot.com, except that once they sell out of a product, they immediately put up the next product for people to buy.
Lastly, there are ocassionally BOC’s on sale (Bags of Crap). These cost $1, and can have anything from a pencil to an xbox to a sony lcd tv in them.

Lots of fun, lots of different ways to waste money on crap… but at least its a slightly entertaining way to purchase stuff online.
